Time, space & nature
Located on a dramatic headland called Horn Head overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Breac.House is the perfect place to leave the world behind. Designed to be part of the landscape both inside and out, Breac.House sits on Donegal's majestic Horn Head.
Designed by award-winning local architects, and built by a team of local tradesmen, the house is spacious and striking while at the same time extremely sensitive to its surroundings, becoming part of the landscape rather than standing against it. Breac.House takes its name from our townland of Lurgabrack, which means the speckled shin — referring to the speckling of rock on the thin sloping Western-side of the head.
Relax on your terrace, in our library, by the fireside in the lounge, in the garden or beside the open outdoor fire. Soak in a revitalising seaweed bath.
The house features finishes of natural, native materials and locally crafted furniture, fabrics and products.
Each room has panoramic views and its own private outdoor space to connect you with the dramatic landscape. Relax in our garden, take a walk or explore further.
Breac.House was designed by local, award-winning MacGabhann Architects. Brothers Tarla and Antoin MacGabhann and their talented team have created an innovative and exciting design, which is both contemporary and traditional in its use of materials and how the building sits within the unique landscape of Horn Head.
A team of Donegal craftsmen
Led by builders Joseph McMenamin & Sons and our foreman Eugene Gallagher, a team of craftsmen have painstakingly completed the building of Breac.House. Local joiners and makers Hugh Haughey and Frank Morning have crafted every piece of fitted oak joinery in the bedrooms, library, boot room, kitchen and open areas. The beautiful Fanad granite has been cut and fitted by local stonemason Thomas Carr, and the Ardara Quartzite was quarried for us in South Donegal.
Super-king, custom-crafted oak bed, Irish-made luxury mattress, pure Irish wool duvets & pillows, and organic fair-trade cotton sheets.
Hand-woven Donegal tweed throws and cushions by a local artisan weaver.
Large wooden windows, with oak window seats, frame spectacular views in every room and lead to your own private terrace or balcony.
Dramatic handcrafted terrazzo bathrooms including wetroom showers with rainmaker showerheads and local organic seaweed products.
Enjoy your breakfast, arriving as if by magic through your hatch — in bed, at your window seat, or wrap up in a tweed throw and savour on your own terrace or balcony.
Rooms are equipped with everything you need for your stay. The handmade oak servery unit contains daily essentials such as complimentary bottled water, tea and coffee making facilities and some daily treats.
