There is nothing quite so beautiful as waking up on Horn Head to see the glorious Donegal mountains covered with the first snow of winter. The contrast of the white snow against the clear winter sky highlights the dramatic shape of Muckish mountain, which is a huge inspiration for many of the design elements at Breac.House.
There is no bad time to visit Donegal but there is something very special about winter here when everything is just a little quieter, the colours more muted and the Atlantic weather dominates our days. We are constantly asked by our guests if we take the spectacular panoramic views of the Derryveagh mountains, Dunfanaghy, Horn Head and Sheephaven Bay for granted. The answer is a simple 'no' - as no day, or hour, is ever the same.
All the seasons are a little different at Breac.House. Now that winter is finally with us, it is the time to take out the woollen coats, jumpers, scarves, throws and our Irish wool duvets. Donegal is the home of handwoven tweed and we are fanatical about working with local designers and makers. It has been a real pleasure to introduce our guests from all over the world to this truly world class heritage product - a real gem of Irish traditional and contemporary design. Watching one of our guests retreat to the fireside wrapped up in a Donegal tweed throw while looking out at the changing landscape is what the Breac.House experience is all about.
