Play Donegal’s finest links golf courses

IMG 2301 B2189684 1

Donegal has a range of amazing links golf courses - some of which are absolutely world class. Stunning to play on a sunny day, a real challenge when the wind blows. Here are a few to choose from – you will want to play them all.

-. Right beside us in Dunfanaghy, we have the beautiful Dunfanaghy Golf Club which is a classic links style course overlooking Horn Head and Sheephaven Bay. Recently installed covered driving range bays.

- Rosapenna : Undoubtedly the best quality group of courses in the immediate area (if not in Ireland or the world !). The recently added St. Patricks Links has been included in a number of the lists of the top 100 courses in the world, complimenting the already famous Old Tom Morris and Sandy Hills courses. Driving range on-site.

- Portsalon : beautiful old links course, one of the oldest in Ireland & the UK, perfectly situated overlooking Lough Swilly.

- Cruit Island : a small, short, quirky 9 hole course in a spectacular rocky coastal location at the tip of Cruit Island. A true hidden gem.

- Narin Portnoo : a stunning links course, recently renovated to a very high standard. Now touching world-class level, without the name-recognition of other courses (just yet). One of my own favourites.

-North West Golf Club in Buncrana : Founded in 1891, this is a beautiful but very accessible links-course located on the eastern shores of Lough Swilly.

- Ballyliffin : furthest away from here (approx 1hr 30mins from Breac.House) but worth it for the 2 spectacular championship courses, The Old Links and Glashedy Links, which hosted the Irish Open in 2018. When the wind really blows here, at Ireland’s most northerly tip, there is no greater golfing challenge. Tip : leave time for a bowl of the award winning seafood chowder in nearby Nancy’s Barn, before or after.

Ottway, Rathmullan. : Like Cruit Island golf course, this is another short but very scenic little 9 hole gem of a course. Perfect if you are short of time but want a unique Donegal golfing experience on the western shores of Lough Swilly.
